Welcome to Chemistry

Course Description: In Chemistry, students dive deeper into the fundamental concepts and applications of the composition of matter, its properties, and the changes it undergoes.  The goal in this course is to develop a deeper appreciation for God and His design as we learn how important and significant chemistry is in our everyday lives. The principles learned involve both qualitative and quantitative study which are also applied to the lab work. The experiments in the curriculum are completed with some variations and extra activities to provide students with hands-on experience and a visual of the concepts while developing laboratory skills.  This course covers the traditional topics covered in High School including molecular structure, chemical bonding with its geometry, basic chemical reactions including acid-base and redox reactions, ideal gases, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics and equilibrium, among others.  Each chapter includes math-related work, which serves to increase the student’s problem-solving skills and logical reasoning while developing an understanding of molecular interactions.  Additional online study/help sessions are available as needed.

Textbook:  Discovering Design with Chemistry, Dr. Jay L. Wile, Berean Builders
